Family & Spectator Code of Conduct

The involvement of family in a child’s athletic endeavors is very important and strongly encouraged. Due to this involvement, family plays an important role in promoting good behavior, and one of the best ways to do this is leading by example. As such, the following is a code of conduct for families that should lay the groundwork for a positive experience:

· Seats in the bowler’s circle are reserved for bowlers only; seats behind the bowler’s circle should be open for spectators

· Outside food and beverage is not permitted in the bowling center

· League officials are volunteers, who give their time for the benefit of youth bowling.  Under no circumstances shall a tournament official be subject to abuse (verbal or physical) by any athlete, coach, or spectator

· Foul language and gestures are prohibited for all athletes, coaches and spectators.

· Cheering is a form of positive reinforcement and as such is encouraged. Remember that children participate to have fun and that the game is for youth, not adults

· Be a positive role model for the children and encourage sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy, and by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, officials and spectators at every event

· Do not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player or parent such as booing or taunting, or using profane language and gestures.

· Do not encourage any behaviors or practices that endanger the health and well-being of the athletes

· Teach your child to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence

· Never ridicule or yell at your child or other participant for making a mistake or losing a competition

· Respect the officials and their authority during competition and do not confront coaches during play and take time to speak with any official or coach at an agreed upon time and place

· Refrain from the use of drugs and alcohol
